The new EU tyre label.

New EU tyre label: more transparency, lower emissions.

On 1 May 2021, the European Union will introduce a new regulation on the labelling of tyres with respect to fuel efficiency and other parameters. This is intended to enable you to make a conscious choice for more fuel-efficient tyres. Because this can contribute to reduced costs and lower emissions for both privately and commercially used vehicles.

In addition, the new tyre label applicable with this regulation supports the EU's goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Road transport and the reduction of the CO2 emissions it generates play a major role in achieving this goal.

EU tyre label

The new EU tyre label presents the most important properties such as fuel efficiency, wet grip and rolling noise of tyres even more clearly and simply. In addition, it contains pictograms regarding grip on snow and ice as well as a QR code with which the product data sheet can be viewed.

Features of the new EU tyre label.

  • The new tyre label now also applies to bus and truck tyres (tyre classes C1, C2, C3) in addition to passenger car tyres
  • New, shorter scale for fuel efficiency with classification A to E [1]
  • New, shorter scale for wet grip with classification [1] A to E
  • New noise rating presentation with classification [2] A bis C

Additional information on the new tyre label:

  • Tyre type identification (product code of the tyre)
  • New pictograms for grip on snow (3PMSF) and grip on ice
  • QR code for each tyre type identification with link to the EU product database (EPREL)

About the information on the new regulation on the labelling of tyres with regard to fuel efficiency and other parameters. Please note that actual fuel savings and road safety depend to a large extent on one's own driving style as well as on the specific conditions ( e.g. weather, topography, traffic volume) during the journey. Fuel consumption can be significantly reduced by driving in an environmentally responsible manner. To improve fuel efficiency and wet grip, it is recommended to check the tyre pressure regularly. Please also note that braking and stopping distances may change depending on the speed at which you are travelling and the weather conditions, and that appropriate safety distances should be maintained.
