The original for the city – all-electric.
Your head start into the future.
The tridion safety cell forms the core of smart's innovative safety concept, should an accident occur.
The safety concept for the high-voltage battery has been developed to ensure that the occupants do not come into contact with high voltage. A separate, conventional on-board electrical system with a 12 V car battery, shock-proof plugs and continuous monitoring by a dedicated 12 V interlock circuit are employed to this end. In the event of an accident, the high-voltage elements will be deactivated, depending on the severity of impact. In addition, the battery is accommodated in a robust frame in the underbody.
In addition to airbags for driver and front passenger, all new smart models come with a kneebag for the driver, two pelvis/thorax bags in the driver and front passenger seat backrests and headbags in the door trim.
In addition to airbags for the driver and front passenger, all new smart models come with a kneebag for the driver, two pelvis/thorax bags in the backrests of the driver's and front passenger seats and window airbags, which deploy over the windows on the side of the vehicle affected by an impact.
If the radar sensors detect a risk of collision with the vehicle ahead at a speed of over 30 km/h, the Assist function with alert you with a warning tone. Should the driver fail to brake or initiate evasive manoeuvres despite the warning, slight braking is initiated autonomously. If the driver responds by braking, they will be assisted with their emergency braking
In strong side winds, standard-fit Crosswind Assist detects any impairments to straight-line stability and specifically brakes individual wheels to avoid you having to counter-steer so heavily.
